A REUNION - 20 YEARS LATER
20 years later, I went back to where my music career began…
Not school, not university, but for BMG Records, where I started out as an intern.
I’ve never felt the urge to look back before. But after the recent loss of some former colleagues, and a pull to reconnect with the amazing humans who shaped me and my early career, I felt it was time.
BMG was an incredible place to work, and it always felt like more than just a job. I had the privilege of working with acts like Kings of Leon, Foo Fighters, Kasabian and Avril Lavigne.
Looking back, it wasn’t just about the acts we worked with, it was about the people beside me. Having colleagues who believed in me and pushed me made all the difference. That sense of belonging is something so many women in music still crave in their careers today.
Even after stepping off the red eye from New York, a little blurry-eyed that morning, it turned out to be such a special experience.
So many smiling, welcoming faces, who hadn’t changed a bit. Hearing where life has taken everyone was wonderful.
If you’ve ever hesitated about going to a reunion (whether it’s school, uni, or work) I’d encourage you to give it a try. It can be such a gift to reconnect, remember, and realise the impact people have had on your journey.
