DON’T WAIT FOR COMMUNITY. BUILD IT.
Too many women in music are still building alone. That has to change.
Maybe you’ve felt that isolation yourself; putting your head down, doing the work, and wishing there was more support around you.
Last week I joined the first monthly call with Pitch Perfect, a new business community designed to empower women entrepreneurs in music. It reinforced what I already knew: community isn’t about surface networking - it’s about the deeper ways we as women can help one another.
Men have had these networks for decades. Too often, women haven’t been in those rooms. But you don’t have to keep pushing through on your own. When you share your wins, ask for help, and intentionally lift others, you shift the system so more women lead and thrive in this industry.
I’ve seen the ripple effect in action. Every time I’ve introduced a woman craving connection, volunteered my time, or recommended someone to a contact, it hasn’t just helped them; it’s opened doors for me too. That’s what happens when you show up for others: opportunities multiply on both sides.
You’ve likely noticed it too. So ask yourself:
Whose voice can I amplify?
How can I be of service?
And right now, when layoffs and uncertainty are hitting so many in our industry, you might be wondering how you’re going to navigate it all….
Community isn’t optional. It’s essential.
Think about the women in your orbit: what’s one introduction, one recommendation, or one bit of time you could give this week that might change things for them? That’s community in action.
If you’re looking for spaces to plug into, there are plenty to explore: Women in Music, She Said So, Keychange, Pitch Perfect, Lone Wolves, Mamas In Music and Gritty In Pink - each doing vital work to connect, support, and lift women in music.
Community is the power move. Let’s build it together.
