LAID OFF? YOU’RE NOT ALONE.

When I was made redundant from a major record label, I was offered coaching as part of my exit package.

The aim was to be supportive, but the reality was:

🎵 The coach didn’t get the culture or pace of the industry.
🎵 The sessions felt generic.
🎵 I had no say in who I worked with.

I left those sessions feeling more isolated than before; like I had to hold it together and pretend I was “fine.”

It showed me what support shouldn’t feel like, and that’s stayed with me.

Since becoming an executive coach, I’ve worked with over 50 women in music who’ve been laid off.

Some were offered coaching that missed the mark. Others got nothing. Either way, they felt unsupported.

When you’re facing grief, shock, and uncertainty, being matched with someone who doesn’t get your world can make it even harder.

So if this is you, please know:

✅ It’s not your fault.
✅ You don’t need to bounce back overnight.
✅ You’re allowed to pause before you leap.
✅ You deserve support that understands your world.

The industry doesn’t always hold space for the emotional side of job loss, but that doesn’t mean we can’t.

Take your time.
Grieve. Regroup.
You deserve to feel seen in the process.
